What is Rolfing?

Rolfing is a form of bodywork developed in the 1950's by Ida Rolf Ph.D.  Rolfing practitioners ("Rolfers") work primarily with restrictions in the body's connective tissue network known as fascia.

Fascia consists of an interconnecting web of fibers, such that restriction in one part of the "web" can effect the tension and arrangement of fibers elsewhere.

Rolfing consists of some simple ideas about human structure: we function better when we are aligned with gravity; and working with fascia improves this alignment. Rolfing addresses restrictions in the fascia caused by accidents and surgery, poor posture, overuse, and prolonged tension from stress.
